Abstract:

The distribution and information on biology of sixtyeight Finnish fruit-flies are presented on the basis of a revision of museum collections and recent field investigations over the last ten years. Information on fruit-fly parasitoids occuring in northern Europe has been collected from literature and rearings in Finland. The conservation status of the Finnish species has for the first time been preliminary assessed using IUCN criteria. Seven species are regarded extinct from Finland, two are classified as endangered and three as vulnerable. Eight species are near threatened and in need of surveillance. The species Stemonocera superciliata (Frey) and Terellia colon (Meigen) have been found very recently and are regarded as data deficient. Urophora solistitialis (L.) living in Finnish Lapland has only recently been found after many decades. Due to inefficient recent collecting in northern Finland it is also classified as data deficient. Ceratitis capitata (Wiedemann) is believed to be introduced and has thus not been evaluated.
